An official has confirmed that Santana will be appearing in Goa.

As part of a drive to boost tourist numbers in the Indian state of Goa, officials are keen to promote the region as one of the premier places on the subcontinent to see musical megastars.

Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar has confirmed that one of the first acts to be showcased in Goa will be legendary rock guitarist Carlos Santana.

He explained that the details are still being worked out but Santana is currently lined up to perform at Sinquerim on January 16th.

Goa already hosts the dance music festival Sunburn, which is set for the beaches of Candolim on December 27th, 28th and 29th, but Mr Parulekar thinks that these big festivals should be spread around the state.

“I have suggested that this time, they should hold it in south Goa because right from the time it was brought to Goa, it was held in Candolim,” he said.

What is certain is that those booking flights to Goa in the new year will see one of music’s finest acts. Santana has won ten Grammy Awards and was voted 15th in Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 best guitarists of all time.
