Goa is on board with the latest initiatives to come from World Tourism Day.
Today (September 27th) sees the launch of World Tourism Day, which this year has the theme of Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development and hopes to make people aware of the importance of green issues when on holiday in the future.
However, it seems as though Goa is already one step ahead of the competition.
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa spokesman Ralph de Souza said the tourism industry in the popular India state is already using sustainable energy sources.
“Most hotels have solar-powered water heaters and use CFL light bulbs. Besides, kitchen equipment that use a lot of energy are being replaced by energy-saving appliances,” he added.
Even the four and five star hotels in Goa are all on board with the eco-drive and use environmentally procured water to keep their extravagant gardens looking lush under the Goan sun.
Scientist Joe D’Souza told the Times of India that there now needs to be a report to ascertain how much the state’s tourism industry can expand before it becomes unsustainable.
