Much to the delight of holiday makers who take India bound flights and are often met with shortage of quality hotel rooms, InterContinental Hotels Group has come up with plans to open up 150 properties across the country by 2020.

International vacationers and business travellers taking flights to various destinations in India will have an entire plethora of accommodation options to choose from in the coming future. InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), a major global hospitality chain has unveiled its plans to establish as many as 150 properties across the nation by 2020 as part of its expansion strategy.

“Our aim is to have 150 hotels open across India by 2020,” IHG India, Middle East and Africa Chief Operating Officer Pascal Gauvin was quoted in news reports.

Currently, the chain has 12 properties in the country under three brands – InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn that serve locals and international travellers grabbing flights. The firm is planning to launch another of its brand, Holiday Inn Express this year.

“The first Holiday Inn Express in India, which we are launching in November, will be in Ahmedabad (a western Indian city),” Mr Gauvin added.

IHG has over 666,000 guest rooms in around 4,500 properties in some 100 countries around the world. The firm operates nine brands including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.

IHG’s investment in the Southeast Asian nation comes at a time when the need for quality rooms in the country is going up. With millions of foreign tourists booking tickets on flights to the popular destinations of India every year, a dearth of good accommodation alternatives has been felt.

Enhanced business prospects have led global hospitality chains to eye the expanse as a favourable market, with many making announcements of investment in the country. All this is sure to delight tourists keen on booking flights to explore the region’s many charms while having a pleasant stay.

The country remains a hot tourist destination setting millions on a virtual stampede to get their hands around cheap flights tickets for the region.
