Cape Town has marked World Responsible Tourism Day, noting how the sector has grown.

Travellers taking flights to Cape Town could be interested to hear that the city is supporting responsible tourism.

Representatives from the tourism sector offered their support to the World Travel Market World Responsible Tourism Day on November 9th 2011.

Cape Town Tourism member and developer in Responsible Tourism Anne van der Tuuk said: “Responsible and community tourism has gained momentum from a niche tourism sector to a philosophy that is one of the industry’s most exciting developments ever.”

She said that the movement has united travellers the world over and has provided a way of showing that the tourism sector is willing to act to ensure the planet is not affected by the industry.

In total, more than 150 international tour operators and companies participated in the event.

Travellers taking flights to Cape Town could decide to offer their support to Table Mountain’s entry into the New Seven Wonders of Nature contest.
