The Indian government have declared the Aguada fort to be of national importance.

Goa is known as one of the most popular holiday destinations in the whole of India.

Every year, millions of people travel to the state to enjoy its tropical beaches and temperatures.

The white sand and palm tree scenery is one of the major highlights of a stay in Goa, but the region also has a rich and varied cultural history, offering a fascinating insight into India’s past.

One of the most popular attractions away from the beach in Goa is the Aguada Fort – and now it has been deemed important enough to be declared a monument of national importance by the country’s government, reports the Times of India.

This means that the Archaeological Survey of India will maintain and preserve the site for the enjoyment of future generations.

The fort was constructed in 1612 and now offers tourist stunning views of the Arabian Ocean and River Mandovi.
