The Durga Puja could provide a fitting highlight to a trip to Kolkata this year.
The Durga Puja is one of the Bengali region’s biggest celebrations and people from all over the world flood into Kolkata and other southern Indian towns to be a part of the special atmosphere.
It is a collection of celebrations that aim to pay homage to the goddess Durga and tourists and locals alike can join in with the singing, dancing and gift giving.
This year is set to be even more special as officials have set out new plans that will allow visitors to get right to the heart of the action.
According to the Times of India, tourism minister Rachpal Singh held a meeting with members of the travel industry and fleshed out ideas of how the occasion can provide an even more memorable occasion.
Proposals currently include offering special river cruises and incorporating the Belar Math so that people can also see the Kumari puja.
