Byron Bay in Australia has been ranked among the world’s top beaches in a new survey by TripAdvisor.

Sun lovers may wish to book a flight to Australia, as one of its beaches has just been named as among the best in the world.

The beach at Byron Bay came only second to Oludeniz in Turkey in the TripAdvisor survey, which quizzed holidaymakers on everything from the best places to have an adventure to the top destinations to soak up some culture.

Other highlights of the 2010 Travellers’ Choice Destination list included Queenstown in New Zealand – named as the best place for an outdoor break – and Edinburgh, which was named the best place in the UK to take a holiday.

Byron Bay has plenty to offer holidaymakers with all sorts of interests. Adventurous types may wish to sign up for a kayaking excursion in the calm waters of the bay – spotting playful dolphins and humpback whales at certain times of the year – while those who prefer calmer activities may instead wish to explore the local shops and eateries.
