Australia is the most popular destination for 41 per cent of holidaymakers.

 Nearly half of all holidaymakers questioned in a recent survey have revealed that they would like to book flights to Australia and head down under for a fun-filled break.

Travel add-ons firm Holiday Extras found that some 41 per cent of people would most like to take break in Australia out of all of the countries competing in this year’s Fifa World Cup.

Heading to destinations such as Sydney and Brisbane proved to be the most popular option by a long way, with Italy being the second most-favoured country with 16 per cent of the vote.

This year’s host nation of South Africa was also a popular option among those questioned, with 14 per cent stating they would like to holiday in the country this year.

Those jetting off to Australia may be wise to sample the delights of Byron Bay – a recent survey by TripAdvisor revealed that the east coast destination has one of the best beaches in the entire world.
