The Por Tor Festival will get underway in Phuket next month
Anyone staying in the Thai paradise of Phuket knows that they are going to see exquisite coastal scenery, as the turquoise seas and white sands are often the area’s main attraction.
However, it is now only a month away from the Por Tor Festival and for once even the beaches of Phuket may be upstaged.
The destination is a diverse area and the Hungry Ghost Festival is rooted in Chinese custom.
From August 21st to September 6th, nearly all the Oriental shrines on the island – of which there are many – will celebrate the event in some way.
However, the largest and most spectacular sight of this beautiful time of the year is often held around the fresh market on Ranong Road.
Traditional merit-making ceremonies will stand side by side with lion dances, magic shows, live concerts, cabaret entertainment and all sorts of other delights.
Of course, as it is in the vicinity of the market, visitors can expect to see plenty of fresh and specialised food for the Por Tor.
