Kerala is hoping sustainable infrastructure improvements will drive tourist growth.

Kerala is set to build on its burgeoning reputation as a tourist haven in the coming years as officials in the state are keen to ensure that growth is sustained.

The state is a favourite among foreign holidaymakers who are looking to experience the unique Indian atmosphere and see some of the most beautiful coastal and jungle scenery anywhere in the world.

“The next level is to bring growth within the framework of sustainability, which is why tourism department has emphasized on responsible tourism,” Suman Billa Kerala tourism secretary told the Times of India.

He added that all of the 17 new projects in the city will be environmentally sound and no shortcuts will be taken.

A total of ten million visitors came to Kerala last year and as investment is made on sea planes and water taxis authorities are hoping that the state will soon be able to accommodate even more.
