Indian officials are keen to promote the ecotourism potential of the forests outside of Delhi.

Delhi is one of the world’s most vibrant and exciting cities.

People travelling to India to stay in the metropolis expect to experience busy streets, packed-out markets and a cacophony of sights, sounds and smells.

However, the outlaying regions of the ancient city are a far cry from urban hustle and bustle.

Tourism chiefs have unveiled plans for 558 acres of land just 33kms away from Delhi to be used as the site of an ecotourism reserve.

The Gram panchayat Bhondsi area of forest has high levels of biodiversity and Haryana chief secretary PK Chaudhery believes if cultivated correctly, this land could be a major tourist attraction in the near future.

Located inside the Gurgaon district, the forest land is home to numerous species of rare animals and plants.

If the plans go ahead tourists will be able to see leopards and monkeys and a variety of birds in their natural habitats.
