Bangkok could be the destination of F1’s newest night race.
Bangkok looks set to add to its growing list of attractions and world-class facilities, by securing a Formula One grand prix.
Kanokphand Chulakasem, governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, has told the Bangkok Post that a deal has been agreed in principle that will see F1 return to the country in 2014.
He held talks with motor racing supremo Bernie Ecclestone and Red Bull owner Chalerm Yoovidhya at last week’s Singapore grand prix and the night racing has been popular with fans.
Ecclestone believes that it could be a possibility that Bangkok will host another race that takes place under the lights.
“It’s difficult to know. The trouble is they’ve started something that’s so popular worldwide that I’m sure other people are going to want to do this,” he said.
There is certainly demand for F1 in Thailand, as more than 100,000 people took to the streets to see Mark Webber perform in a demo back in 2010 so those booking flights to Bangkok in the future could plan them around the race.
