Art lovers heading to Johannesburg can check out some great contemporary works in the coming weeks.

Art-loving travellers heading out on cheap flights to Johannesburg in the coming weeks will be able to view the works of one influential artist.

An exhibition dedicated to the painter Walter Voigt, who is a native of the city, is being held at the Everard Read Johannesburg gallery up until August 31st.

Fans of Voigt’s work are in for a treat, as admission to the show is completely free – giving art lovers the chance to experience his “passion for the sky and landscape” of the region first-hand.

“His recent works depict the Johannesburg landscape and its skies in all their glory,” What’s On Johannesburg said of the artist.

Art lovers also have the chance to purchase one of Voigt’s pieces, with the venue noting that all exhibited works are for sale.

Everard Read is among South Africa’s most famous commercial art galleries and was founded in 1912 before moving to its present downtown location in 1980.
