South African tourism has been given a boost after Cape Town was named as the world’s best travel destination.

The South African city of Cape Town has been named as the best travel destination in the world in a major travellers’ poll.

TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel website, drew on millions of online reviews to name Cape Town as the top choice, ahead of major destinations such as London, Sydney and New York, which also featured in the top ten.

Brits catching flights to Cape Town can expect exceptional quality of hotels, as Blackheath Lodge and Derwent House Boutique Hotel were ranked 7th and 8th respectively in the ‘Top 10 Hotels for Service’ category.

Western Cape tourism minister Alan Winde said that the news was “especially exciting” for everyone connected with goings on in the South African city.

“To be ranked first out of all cities in the world, and against global destinations of this calibre, speaks volumes about the strength of our offering,” he said.

Brits thinking of booking flights to Cape Town can choose from airlines such as Emirates, KLM and Etihad Airways.
