Emirates heading to Adelaide

Dubai-based carrier Emirates is conducting a major route expansion with news that it is launching three additional destinations in the next six months, on top of the 12 already scheduled to launch in 2012.

Australia is one of the countries being targeted in this growth process, with Adelaide to become Emirates fifth destination down under from November, while Perth will see an extra flight added per day.

The other new destinations are in Europe, including the French city of Lyon.

“Emirates is currently in a concentrated and sustained period of global expansion,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of the Emirates Airline and Group.

“The addition of Adelaide to our network and the boost to our Perth operations demonstrates our commitment to investment and growth in our Australian operations.”

Emirates’ fleet consists of 176 aircraft, including the world’s largest Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 fleet, flying to 124 destinations worldwide.
