Anyone looking for a historical break in the sunshine should consider visiting the Egyptian city of Alexandria, it has been claimed.
People who want to delve into the history of ancient civilisations could find that booking flights to Egypt is a good plan this year.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Teresa Levonian Cole explained that there is plenty to see and do in Egypt’s second city.
As well as a host of historical sights, she was impressed by Alexandria’s picturesque sea front.
She recommended a trip to the Roman ruins and catacombs, as well as a stroll around one of the city’s museums, which are “filled with exquisite mosaics and Hellenistic statues”, Ms Levonian Cole explained.
Another option for anyone who wants to explore Egypt’s history is to follow the path of Alexander the Great and visit the Oasis of Siwa, located in the heart of the desert.
Travellers can access the ruins of the old city before going on to explore the market places and winding streets of the modern town.
The area boasts a number of refreshing springs that holidaymakers can swim in and an excursion to the salt lake of Birket Siwa and Fatnas Island, which is found in the expanse of water, is a must.
