Virgin Australia has announced that it has increased the number of flights it is offering.

People taking flights to Australia will have more choice of locations to fly to with Virgin Australia after it added extra capacity to Queensland and Tasmania.

The carrier made the announcement that it will be significantly boosting the number of seats it is offering to these locations ahead of the start of the busy summer season.

More than 16,000 new seats will be made available for travel between December 12th 2011 and January 31st 2012.

The flights will include journeys between cities such as Brisbane, Gold Coast and Melbourne.

“With summer holidays on the way, these additional services will give families many more options for their interstate travel plans,” said Merren McArthur, Virgin Australia group executive for alliances, network and yield.

Some people may be planning to take flights to Australia to visit the Gold Coast after its numerous sporting events came in for praise from Martin Winter, chief executive officer at the region’s tourism authority.
