The Dreamliner aircraft has made its first journey to Sydney in time for the 91st anniversary of Qantas.

Travellers could soon be taking flights to Sydney aboard the new Dreamliner aircraft after it made its first journey to the city.

The Qantas Group celebrated the arrival of the huge aeroplane to the city as it coincided with the company’s 91st anniversary.

It has placed an order for 50 of the Boeing 787 aeroplanes and stated that they were vital for the growth of the company and Jetstar.

It is thought Jetstar will see its first Dreamliner in mid-2013.

Qantas chief executive officer Alan Joyce said that the Dreamliner would change air travel.

“It offers greater fuel-efficiency, lower operating costs and a better customer experience than current aircraft of similar size,” he added, explaining that it can serve both economy and premium services.

People taking flights to Sydney on board the aircraft could decide to follow in the footsteps of one couple who recently became engaged in the cockpit of one of the aeroplanes.
