Queenstown saw the biggest increase tourism numbers in New Zealand during May, new statistics show
Queenstown has enjoyed the biggest boost in tourism numbers in the whole of New Zealand during May, new figures reveal.
The report from New Zealand Statistics revealed that international guest nights in the area were up by 24 per cent when compared to the corresponding period in 2011.
According to the figures, the rise was spread across all accommodation sectors, with hotels recording 16.8 per cent, motels 11.4 per cent, backpackers 9.5 per cent and holiday parks enjoying 20.5 per cent increases.
“Hosting Trenz, New Zealand’s premier international trade event, for a second year clearly boosted the result and helped our recovery,” said Destination Queenstown chief executive Graham Budd.
There is a lot more to the South Island destination than trade fairs.
It is known as one of the most beautiful places on the planet, with stunning natural scenery and plenty of outdoor events to keep adrenaline junkies entertained.
The world renowned Winter Festival is a highlight, but Summer Daze and the Arrowtown Autumn Festival ensure there is never a bad time to visit.
