New commercials will showcase New Zealand’s involvement in the Hobbit films.
Tourism New Zealand is about to launch a new visitor drive to coincide with the latest blockbuster films that showcase its stunning countryside.
During Christmas this year and for the following two years, Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy will be on silver screens all over the world.
Fans will be rushing to see the latest bit of Tolkien action following a nine-year hiatus since the culmination of the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Back then people flooded the Kiwi mountains and grasslands after seeing the vistas at the cinema.
And tourism chiefs in New Zealand are hoping that the Hobbit films will produce a similar effect.
“Our aim is to take advantage of that global profile by showing how easily the fantasy of The Hobbit movies can become reality in the form of a New Zealand holiday,” Tourism NZ’s chief executive Kevin Bowler said.
A new 60-second “100 per cent Middle Earth” commercial will be aired in Australia, United Kingdom and the United States.
