Virgin Atlantic has been named as the winner of three prizes at the British Travel Awards.

The carrier scooped gongs for Best Airline Business Class, Best Airline Economy Class and Best Scheduled Airline Long Haul.

It also came second in the Airline of the Year category, which was won by Etihad Airways.

Virgin Atlantic chief executive Steve Ridgway said that the carrier was flying high after receiving the accolades.

“This is an amazing achievement. The travellers who voted clearly love flying with us, which is a tribute to our people, our innovative products and high standards in customer service,” he commented.

Last month, Virgin announced that it is to cut fuel surcharges in order to pass on savings from a fall in oil prices to its customers.

Meanwhile, the carrier also said in October that its passengers from London Heathrow may soon be able to benefit from better services.

Those opting to travel on the carrier’s Upper Class service from Terminal 3 will now get through check-in and security in only 40 minutes, it said.
