More people are making their way to Agra’s Taj Mahal after the opening of the Yamuna Expressway.
It is now so much easier for foreign tourists to see the iconic Taj Mahal thanks to the success of the Yamuna Expressway.
The monument is set just outside the city of Agra and the new toll road has cut the commute from Delhi by 50 per cent, meaning it is just a two-hour trip away and this is having a very positive affect, according to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Indeed, the ASI revealed that the Taj is now visited by at least 30,000 people every weekend. This is around 60 per cent higher than the figures recorded before the opening of the six-lane expressway.
“For many, Agra means Taj Mahal. After traveling two hours through the Expressway … visitors do not mind skipping visiting other monuments,” NK Pathak, Superintending Archaeologist of the ASI told the Pioneer.
The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and widely regarded as one of the most spectacular of Unesco’s World Heritage sites.
