With popular Indian festival, Durga Puja slated to be celebrated in October, authorities are expecting a spurt in foreigners taking flights to India connecting West Bengal, an eastern state that is considered the hub of festivities for the event.
With India’s major religious and cultural festival of Durga Puja just around the corner, the authorities are planning hard to lure more and more international travellers to take flights to India to partake in the auspicious festivities.
Celebrated primarily in the country’s eastern state of West Bengal, Durga Puja is marked by adorning images of the goddess Durga that are worshipped inside beautifully decked up Puja Pandals. Bengalis, an ethnic community in India, organise an array of cultural events and perform auspicious rituals to celebrate the occasion which represent the image of traditional India and its prosperous culture.
The event always attracts hordes of domestic tourists on flights from different parts of India as well as tempts foreigners to opt for India bound flights.
This year the festival will be held in the month of October and authorities are leaving no stone unturned to tempt streams of international holidaymakers on flights to India to be a part of such a culturally rich occasion.
The news reports quoted the Tourism Ministry of West Bengal as saying, “We have already organised roadshows in Bangalore and plan more such programme in other major cities like Delhi and Surat, besides drawing attention of tourists from Bangkok, Singapore and neighbouring countries with the help of various central and foreign agencies.”
“The department would shortly announce detailed packages along with toll-free number for help desk and other contacts to assist the tourists, Mr. Singh further added.
Some of the packages that the state government has announced for the foreign tourists taking flights to India to relish the celebrations of Durga Puja are visits to major puja pandals and to the houses of those aristocratic families who organise Durgapuja. Beside, river cruises connecting Belur Math, Dakshineswar and Botanical Garden are also part of the package.
