Kolkata names green energy as its theme for World Tourism Day.

India has become one of the world’s most exciting holiday hotspots in recent years.

This is not only due to the country’s brilliant blend of climate, scenery and atmosphere, but also because of its accommodating and can-do attitude towards foreign visitors.

An example of this is the proposals that Kolkata is preparing for World Tourism Day on September 27th.

State authorities have set out plans to highlight the whole of the Bengal region as an attractive holiday destination.

Tourism department secretary Vikram Sen told the Times of India that the theme of the celebrations this year will be sustainable energy for all.

He added that schoolchildren will feature in the events, which will also coincide with a clean Kolkata campaign.

This is just the latest of a series of tourism initiatives in the region.

Just last month, chief minister Mamata Banerjee presided over a meeting regarding the city’s beautification programme, which will eventually aim to develop a Kolkata Eye – similar to the one in London.
