Kerala state officials hope to attract mountain-biking talent to the state
Thiruvananthapuram and the surrounding state of Kerala are already popular holiday destinations for visitors who want to experience the beautiful scenery of one of India’s most tranquil spots.
Mahatma Ghandi called the state capital the evergreen city of India so it is not surprising that officials have chosen to launch a new outdoor sporting event in the vicinity.
Kerala will host an international mountain bike race in the fist week of November.
“The department wants the mountain biking competition to be an annual event. Since this is the first edition, the department will have to spend a bit,” the Times of India reports a source as saying.
Kerala’s race is expected to cover a distance of 8km and 10km across the slopes and dirt of Thenmala. It is hoped at least 50 bikers will participate in the competition.
The jungles of Thenmala are already an established site for ecotourism.
