Goa, India’s leading holiday destination is getting warmed up to the idea of hosting FIM World Motocross, one of the most popular sporting events. The move is expected to increase the number of tourists on flights to India manifold.
Foreign holidaymakers who often look for excuses to book flights to India may soon have yet another exciting reason to look for flights tickets to the country. In few years from now, foreign tourists taking flights to India and landing up in Goa can hope to enjoy adrenaline pumping FIM World Motocross championship event.
Various online sources report that India’s popular beach destination may become a landmark venue in the championship calendar for the event from 2014.
Recently, a delegation from the Indian state met the promoters and officials of FIM in the United Kingdom to get their consent to conduct the popular two-wheeler racing event in India.
This popular two-wheeler racing sport is conducted on confined off-roads and in four different categories — 450cc, 250cc, 650cc and open category for women.
FIM director, Wolfgang Srb said, “I will be glad to get a country like India and a wonderful place like Goa on the calendar that is exactly the direction we would like to go.”
Giuseppe Luongo, promoter of the motocross, said, “It’s fantastic for our sport and it contributes in the development of motocross all around the world. I am sure that we will organise a great race in Goa.”
Besides the highly popular Formula 1 event that now attracts heaps of sports aficionados on flights to Delhi, Goa seems to be all set to host the high-profile motorsport event to boost the number of passengers on flights to the country.
