Anyone planning holidays to Australia who would like to try something a bit different is being advised to consider participating in one of the many volunteer projects available in South Australia.
Volunteer projects in South Australia are becoming increasingly popular with travellers from all walks of life, according to South Australia Tourism.
Conservation holidays in the area offer visitors a range of options, from camel safaris to tree planting expeditions.
The organisation picked some of the top breaks on offer to ‘voluntourists’. These included Earthwatch – which runs field research expeditions to Kangaroo Island where holidaymakers can observe echidnas and goannas – and Explore the Outback Camel Safaris, which takes tourists on nature-based educational tours.
Research released by travelsupermarket.com last month revealed that one-quarter (25 per cent) of Brits were influenced by nature programmes when booking their holidays.
Safaris and whale and dolphin watching trips were found to be the most popular breaks inspired by the natural world.
The conservation tours available in South Australia allow visitors to get close to some of its most unusual and bizarre wildlife, such as the hairy-nosed wombat and the yellow-footed rock wallaby.
