People booking holidays to Australia this Christmas may want to spend the season soaking up the sun rather than curled up by a log fire.

Anyone booking flights to Sydney this December has been advised to consider spending Christmas day on the beach at Bondi.

In a list of the top ten places to visit during the festive season, Bondi came in at number four.

According to the Daily Telegraph, “a festive atmosphere prevails” at the iconic Australian beach, despite the presence of sun, surf and swimwear in place of the customary snow and woolly jumpers.

Bands and DJs perform live on the seaside as revellers make the most of the country’s warm summer weather to celebrate Christmas.

Traditionally a big occasion for Sydney’s residents, numbers heading for the beach on Christmas day have dwindled since the authorities introduced an alcohol ban there in 2004.

Anyone looking for a more sedate way to spend their day may want to consider taking a trip on the Manly Ferry, the newspaper suggested.

The 30-minute trip takes visitors to the coastal suburb, once described as “Australia’s premier seaside resort”, according to the Manly Australia website.
