Lizard Island in Australia could be the perfect holiday destination for lovers of fishing.
Later this year, the Island will host the 23rd Shell Cover Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic competition, which will attract fishing fans from all over the world.
Travellers could combine a holiday in Australia with some competitive angling in an attempt to catch the largest giant black marlin.
“From August through to December, the waters surrounding Lizard Island boast some of the largest black marlin as they spawn the outer reefs,” said Voyages.
The company added that the destination offers “arguably the best [chances] in the world” to catch one of the elusive creatures and amateur fishermen will stand a great chance.
Lizard Island is located on the Great Barrier Reef and is 240 kilometres north of Cairns, 27 kilometres from the shoreline of Cape Flattery.
The island is home to some 400 white sandy beaches so there is plenty of room to lie back and relax and there are also many opportunities for snorkelling if fishing is not on the agenda.
