A holiday on Australia’s Heron Island has been described as the perfect way to get away from it all, according to a travel writer.
“If you’re really trying to get away from it all, the outlying islands of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef are about as far from Blighty as you can go without heading to Antarctica,” explained Simon Crerar for the Times Online.
Travelling from the UK, the island can be reached by a flight to Sydney, followed by a connecting flight to Brisbane and then a helicopter ride over shipwrecks and sharks.
According to Mr Crerar, Heron Island – located around 75 kilometres off the coast of Australia – is regarded as one of the best places in the world for scuba diving.
He went on to add that if heaven resembled anything like the view of the Great Barrier Reef from Heron, then he would be keen to get there.
There are some 20 different sites for scuba diving and snorkelling on Heron and many are only minutes from the beach.
