Australia has come out top in a recent survey of popular holiday destinations.
Commissioned by Visa, the study found that 80 per cent of New Zealand residents were planning to take a trip to Australia within the next two years.
Other popular travel options included takingĀ flights to Thailand, Singapore and Fiji. There was also support for holidays to the UK and US.
Sean Preston, country manager Visa New Zealand, explained that Australia remained a popular destination despite the current economic climate, with the majority planning to take up to two international holidays within the next 12 months.
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world and is 50 per cent bigger than Europe.
