The Sarojin hotel in Thailand has been named as the country’s best hotel in the Thailand Green Awards 2010.Run by Tourism Authority Thailand (TAT) and responsibletravel.com, the annual awards aim to recognise companies within the tourism sector that are working towards sustainable and eco-friendly operations.

“The Sarojin provides a brilliant example of a luxury resort remaining true to its local community,” said Justin Francis, managing director of responsibletravel.com.

He added: “Guests can either relax in absolute luxury, safe in the knowledge that the resort is doing its bit for the community.”

In December, the hotel launched the Sarojin Khao Lak Community Fund, which aims to support a number of local development projects including the construction of new schools, raising funds for orphanages and the sponsoring of a full-time vet at a community animal surgery.

The Sarojin is located close to the Andaman Sea and is an hour north of Phuket International Airport so could appeal to those taking flights to Thailand for a relaxing break.
