Starwood Hotel & Resorts is planning to expand its Thailand portfolio.
Starwood currently manages 11 hotels in the country but plans to open 13 by 2012, with at least six being based in the city of Bangkok.
Wayne Buckingham, regional vice-president of Starwood Hotels & Resort Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore told Business Times that the Thailand region is a favourite with tourists.
“Thailand is a resilient destination. It has a lot of different issues to be managed, but the business comes back very quickly after problems,” said Mr Buckingham.
He added Bangkok is a key hub for the region and this makes it an ideal location for hotels and resorts.
Starwood currently owns, manages or franchises 979 hotels in around 100 countries.
