The Tourism Authority of Thailand has hailed the country’s growing popularity with movie makers.

A growing number of movie makers are choosing to film in Thailand, officials have noted.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the country is particularly popular with filmmakers from India.

Indeed, official figures show that between January and September this year, more than 460 Indian productions were shot in Thailand.

This means it is the second most popular location among filmmakers from the country, with only Japan ranking above it.

As a result, more and more film buffs might wish to book cheap flights to Thailand in order to see sights from the silver screen with their own eyes.

Suladda Sarutilavan, assistant director of TAT’s Mumbai office, commented: “Thailand is one of the few international locations today which has established a niche in the Indian mainstream cinema.”

She added that the country is popular partly because it boasts a “great variety of locations”, as well as attractions including good beaches, shops, food and nightlife.
