People heading off on flights to India or other exotic destinations should think about seeking local advice for the best places to visit, one travel expert has claimed.

Anyone who has booked their summer holidays to a country that they have never visited before should ask locals for advice about the best places to visit.Simon Calder, travel editor at the Independent, explained that people should avoid relying solely on the internet for advice about a destination.

“People should be far more focused on seeking locals’ advice. […] The first rule of any traveller is to ask and if you do that people are generally very happy to help you,” he stated.

His comments could be particularly useful for anyone who is preparing to board flights to South Africa ahead of the World Cup.

Tourists who are visiting the country for the football competition may find that asking the locals about where to go could be a good move if they want a break from other sports fans.

On June 11th, the tournament kicks off with the hosts playing Mexico in the opening game.
