Different rules on different aircraft means it is important to listen to the cabin crew when it comes to safety, an industry consultancy has said.
It is important to pay attention to the safety briefing on flights to India and other destinations so that travellers know when it is safe to use electrical devices, it has been stressed.
Laurence Price, director of aviation strategy at Mott MacDonald, said that when it comes to using mobile phones, people can be confused by the variations in rules between airlines.
He went on to add that there are also different regulations about when laptops and electrical equipment can be used at different stages during the flight.
“The key thing is to listen to the cabin crew, they are not just there to serve you drinks, they are there for life safety so listen to them,” he explained.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, rules on the majority of flights state that mobile phones cannot be used, even in a flight-safe mode.
It also found that using a mobile phone during a flight can create background noise on the plane’s radio.
