Dubai International Airport has registered double-digit growth in the number of passengers to pass through its doors in October compared with the previous year.
The number of passengers to travel through Dubai International Airport increased by 11.7 per cent in October, compared with the same month in 2008.
Last month, 3,496,366 people passed through the airport. This surge in numbers means that the year-to-date figures for 2009 are already 8.3 per cent ahead of those reported last year.
Paul Griffiths, chief executive officer of Dubai Airports, commented: “Our performance as one of the world’s fastest-growing airports is proof that it pays to invest in infrastructure and build capacity to support and stimulate economic activity.”
He added that the start of the country’s tourist season, coupled with international events such as the Dubai Airshow, would push passenger numbers past the 40 million mark by the end of the year.
Dubai is popular with international visitors for its warm climate, extensive retail offerings and host of high-end hotels.
Its department for tourism and marketing was recently named the Best Tourist Board at the British Travel Awards.
