New flights to India by the airline will include Amritsar and Goa, two cities in Europe will be added and it will be making its debut in Australia by flying to Melbourne and Sydney.
“Our expansion is growing at a remarkable pace with new aircraft joining our fleet at an incredible rate of one a month for the foreseeable future,” said Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker.
According to the company, the number of planes in operation will increase from 68 to 110 by the year 2013 and it expects to serve more than 120 destinations within the next five years – compared to 84 at the moment.
It was also announced that Qatar has become the first Middle Eastern airline to have joined the Aviation Global Deal to help tackle aviation emissions.
Qatar Airways was named the Best Business Class Airline in the Middle East and won the Best Cabin Crew in Middle East award in the World Travel Awards held in Dubai this month.
