People flying to Australia could be picking up a range of exciting rewards in the future.

Travellers taking cheap flights to Australia could be just as likely to get fun rewards as well as frequent flyer points in the future.

This is because a study carried out by Virgin Australia showed that getting non-flight rewards was almost as popular with passengers as getting points to be redeemed against future journeys.

Virgin Australia’s general manager of the Velocity Frequent Flyer programme Phil Gunter said that almost 50 per cent of those questioned stated that rewards were the most appealing aspect of frequent flyer programmes.

“It’s also interesting to note that non-flight rewards such as retail purchases were almost just as popular, with 43 per cent of respondents ranking them as the most appealing aspect,” Mr Gunter added.

Virgin have also recently made changes to the ticketing system for people taking cheap flights to Australia, which will offer better services for systems like guest reservations.
