Tickets to India for Two Weeks in the South

Tickets to India for Two Weeks in the South

India is a vast continent and there are significant differences between the north and the south. You can easily spend a fortnight exploring the delightful south, with its bustling cities, otherworldly ruins and superb beaches. There is so much to see and do that you can devote many weeks to discovering the numerous attractions and wonderful cuisines of South India. Thankfully, there are a variety of flights to India you could take as the start to a holiday here.

When you are thinking of flights to India, you could consider flying into one of the major cities such as Chennai, Bengalaru or Mumbai, all of which are exciting destinations in themselves. No trip to south India would be complete without a few days in Mumbai, the financial capital of India and the home of its vibrant film industry. The southern part of Mumbai has many sights, including the famous railway station with its Victorian architecture that has been featured in films like Slumdog Millionaire. Mumbai is also a great transport hub and from here you can take a flight or a train to many other destinations.

When many people think of south India, they think of Goa, the former Portuguese colony with its wide beaches, each of which has a different character, from the hippyish village of Arambol to the bars and clubs of Anjuna. Goa has its own airport, which makes it an easy connection from Bengaluru or Mumbai.

Ancient Kingdoms

Ancient Kingdoms Hampi

If you enjoy sampling village life, incredible ruins and a fascinating temple, then you will want to visit Hampi in the state of Karnataka. This charming village is home to the remains of a 15th-century Hindu kingdom with elephant stables, set in a landscape full of boulders and with a welcoming village sitting beside a river. Hampi has a very special atmosphere and the best way to get here is probably to book ahead and get a rail ticket on the trains that run several times a week.

Bengalaru is another major transport hub and attractive to many visitors with its restaurants and varied shopping. From here, it’s easy to travel around more of south India. Chennai is another huge city in India’s south and the capital of Tamil Nadu. Like Bengalaru, Chennai is a busy centre for tech and is also a major transport hub. From here you can easily reach Puducherry, with its historic French quarter.

Other highlights of South India include the charming city of Mysore and its colourful palace, partly built with steel imported from Glasgow. Tour this majestic building before wandering the lively streets and perhaps treating yourself to a fresh dosa from a street stall. From here, it’s also easy to visit picturesque Lake Kabini and get to Nagarahole National Park, where you might spot a leopard.

Then there is the beautiful state of Kerala, with its inviting backwaters that can be explored on a houseboat, tempting beaches and lush landscapes. With coffee plantations, welcoming hospitality and a unique cuisine, you will not want to miss Kerala.
