In what may be good news for people on gap years or round-the-world trips, Quantas has announced that it is to increase the number of flights to Johannesburg from Sydney.
The airline will run six trips per week as of December 16th, up from five previously, with passengers benefiting from a B747-400 plane offering first class, business class, premium economy and standard economy seats.
Quantas executive general manager John Borghetti said: “South Africa is an important market for Qantas for both business and leisure travel. This new service will add another 350 seats per week, and more than 18,000 seats per year, on the route.”
The airline recently introduced premium economy class, which includes features such as increased leg room, touch-screen video monitors and an improved menu.
Its new flights to Johannesburg will operate on Tuesdays until January 27th and then on Saturdays from February 7th 2009.
Quantas was founded in the Australian outback in 1920. Today, it is regarded as one of the world’s leading long-distance airlines and is among the strongest brands in Australia.
