Before moving to a foreign country it can help you to integrate by learning some of the local language first.

Before moving to start a new life overseas it can help to learn some of the language first, as this can help you to integrate with the local community.

Jennifer Stevens, executive editor at InternationalLiving.com, said that knowing a bit about the local area and the people who live there can help you a lot when you move to live in another country.

She added that having some language skills can also really help, but by no means is it essential for people to be able to speak the mother tongue of their new home nation fluently.

“If you can, start six months or twelve months in advance in a college or doing one of those online audio courses – try to give yourself a little bit of a language base,” Ms Stevens recommended.

Knowing the language that is predominantly spoken in a region could help if you are moving to India, as the country officially recognises 22 different languages.
