A top car rental firm in India is hoping to appeal to female travellers taking flights to Mumbai.
“The single woman traveller always feels insecure while in a new city. A well-trained lady chauffeur driven rent-a-car goes a long way in allaying her fears,” explained Sunil Gupta, chief executive officer of Avis India.
Initially, the lady chauffeurs will be part of a fleet at Mumbai’s Oberoi Hotel but the company is looking to expand the service across the country.
Each driver has undergone a two-month course on navigation, customer service and luxury car driving skills.
Avis India currently operates in 16 cities across India including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata but is planning further expansion via the opening of new franchises in smaller towns.
