Top tips on how to find the cheapest currency exchange rates.

People booking holidays to Australia or cheap flights to Delhi may be interested in advice on where to pick up the best currency exchange deals.

Research released by an internet-based foreign exchange company has found that travellers could save up to 14 per cent on their foreign currency purchases by shopping around.

The highest rates of exchange are generally found at airports and train stations, according to the chief executive of FairFX.com, Stephen Heath.

He commented: “By preparing in advance and buying your currency online instead of using costly debit or credit cards for foreign spending, travellers will be able to get the most bang for their buck.”

As the pound dropped to a five-month low against the dollar earlier this week, it is becoming more important for travellers to take some time to find the best exchange rate.

Using the internet to purchase foreign currency generally leads to the biggest savings, the research by FairFX.com revealed.

Travellers should also look out for pre-paid debit cards as a means of purchasing currency, according to Mr Heath. These cards are loaded with currency before you travel and often offer competitive exchange rates.
