The TV listings over Christmas could encourage some people to think about where they want to visit in 2012.

The forthcoming TV listings could encourage some people to plan booking flights to New Zealand and other destinations.

Considering the line-up for the coming festive weekend, ABTA- the travel association suggested some people could be inspired by Frozen Planet to go in search of the incredible sights of the Arctic.

Others could be thinking of flying to India after seeing the amazing sights and sounds of the country on the festive edition of Top Gear.

Victoria Bacon, ABTA head of communications, said: “Film and television programmes have a huge influence on British holidaymakers’ travel plans.”

She added that some people could be influenced next year by films, with the forthcoming Hobbit film, which has been shot in New Zealand, sure to help boost tourism to the country.

Some travellers taking flights to New Zealand could decide to book their trip with Virgin Australia, after the carrier received an award for offering the best service on flights to the country and Australia.
