This season’s first hatching of sea turtles has made it to the waters around Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is often associated with complex new building projects and a striking skyline of hotels, which offer some of the best hospitality in the region.

But beyond the amazing accommodation and the superb shopping, there is still room for nature.

The emirate’s Saadiyat Island is the spawning site for hundreds of sea turtles and this season’s reptiles have just hatched.

Since its inception in 2010, the Hawksbill Sea Turtle Conservation Programme, run by the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), has seen 715 baby turtles successfully return to the warm gulf waters around Abu Dhabi, with five more nests still to hatch this year.

The mass migration of turtles is a stunning sight to see which could be the highlight of any holiday – even in a place with as many things to do and see as Abu Dhabi.

TDIC’s Hawksbill Sea Turtle Conservation programme is unique in the Arabian Gulf.
