The Dowse Museum will feature local artists in its new exhibition.

A major new art exhibition is underway at Wellington’s Dowse Museum.

It is a city which is associated with breathtaking natural scenery and the heart of the multi Oscar-winning film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

But the art movement in New Zealand is not just restricted to computer animation.

The Solo show features the paintings and works of four local artists – Matt Hunt, Cat Auburn, Ann Shelton and Ben Buchanan and will run until August 19th.

Anyone attending the event can expect to see the influence of New Zealand’s countryside on the artists as unearthly beings, uneasy oaks and demonstrative deer all crop up in the exhibition.

The Dowse Art Museum is a 15-minute drive from central Wellington and is open daily.

It has a busy events calendar and complements some exhibitions with special talks from the featured artists and it also runs a monthly late night lounge music session.
