Spend it on a beach
A beach holiday is a popular choice for many families due to its relaxing nature and the abundance of amazing locations you can choose from. A beach holiday is so much more than just sitting on a beautiful sandy beach admiring crystal clear water, it is a time for family to come together and enjoy time with one another, explore stunning coastal locations and enjoy the relaxation and freedom of all-inclusive.
Wondering what locations, we think you should be looking at for your next family beach vacation? How about Thailand? A country in Southeast Asia that offers warm climes all-year-round, crystal-clear waters and beautiful palm-lined streets, as well as a selection of wonderful resorts to choose from, much like Dusit Thani Pattaya, Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort and many more!
The Maldives is another location that families flock to in the summer months due to the luxurious nature of the islands and the truly magical experiences that they offer. Stay in a floating sea cabin surrounded by uninterrupted views of the crystal-clear waters and tropical fish below. Some popular choices for families are LUX* South Ari Atoll Resort & Villas, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi and many others!
Some other wonderful locations for a beach getaway with the family include Mauritius, Turkey and holidays to Dubai.
Enjoying adventure-packed itineraries
If sitting on a beach doesn’t sound like something you think the family will enjoy, then why not get stuck into an adventure-packed itinerary full of fun, laughter, and a little adrenaline? Jenny from the blog TraveLynn Family spoke to us about her experiences on adventure holidays with the family:
“I think the pandemic has taught us all that anything can come along to mess up your travel plans. Don’t wait for that big adventure with your family, or when you think that your kids are the ‘right age’ (because that doesn’t actually exist). Take that big adventure holiday together, whether it’s an African safari, backpacking through Southeast Asia, or road tripping across the Australian Outback. An adventure holiday can certainly be the most challenging, but it’s the type of holiday that you will be talking about for years to come. We took our kids overlanding across sub-Saharan Africa in a Land Rover Defender when they were two and four. Four years on, and that’s still the trip we talk about the most, and yes, even our two-year-old still remembers it!”
An adventure holiday can be anything from exploring some of the world’s tallest mountains to road-tripping across some of your favourite countries. No matter your kid’s age, these sorts of holidays can be adapted to suit your family’s needs.
Spend it exploring a city
City breaks are the perfect holiday for families due to the vast array of activities you can enjoy, whether that is doing a spot of sightseeing and exploring the local tourist spots or heading off the tourist trail and trying local cuisine and seeing regional architecture.
Barcelona
The capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, Barcelona is a wonderful location for a family city break. A hybrid of warm Spanish sun and bustling streets full of traditional Spanish restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do. Make sure you don’t miss out on visiting Barceloneta Beach and Bogatell Beach, some of the popular beaches in the location, not to mention Park Guell, a beautiful collection of gardens that reflect Gaudi’s iconic architecture.
Lisbon
Lisbon is another of the cities that lends itself to family holidays. Sitting on the south coast of Portugal and known as the coastal capital, it is a wonderful hybrid of sea, culture and wonderful Portuguese traditions. Wander the streets and explore historic locations like São Jorge Castle, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. A wander around the quieter streets will reveal colourful cottages and local, independently run cafes, shops and restaurants.
Enjoying family activities
We’re sure the kids will appreciate a few fun-filled activities on your next holiday and with Southall Travel there are activity holidays in abundance. From action-packed theme parks to bungee jumping and zip lining in some of the world’s most beautiful locations.
There are so many wonderful activities to enjoy across the globe that will offer the whole family amazing memories that will last a lifetime. Head to Orlando and take the kids to Disneyland, a location where adults can be big children for the day too! Enjoy fairy tale fantasies, white knuckle water rides, thrills, spills and much more.
Take the family on a history-filled holiday to the ancient country of Egypt. Experience the mystery of the ancient Pyramids of Giza, meander your way through the frenetic Khan al-Khalili bazaar or sit back and relax as you ride down the famous river Nile.
If those options aren’t taking your fancy, then why not consider New York, Vancouver or Brisbane for adrenaline-filled skydives, skiing adventures and snow-capped skating rinks?
Discovering some of the world’s wildlife
What better experience to offer kids than a wildlife holiday seeing some of the world’s most infamous and notorious animals? South Africa is the perfect location for wildlife spotting and a brilliant location to try and spot the mighty big six. The famous Kruger National Park is a popular spot for tourists and is a great place to catch a glimpse of your favourite African species. And for those looking to enjoy the beauty of the many underwater species that South Africa has to offer, then Cape Town is always a magnificent choice.
Colder climes in Canada also bring the possibility of seeing mighty beasts like bears and moose, animals that are very rarely sighted but magnificent when they are. Head to the coast of Canada and catch a glimpse of whale fins as they rise and fall above the waves.
