Maasai Mara, Kenya
Who doesn’t wish to explore Maasai Mara? An immense expanse of scenic landscapes comprising an array of ecosystems, Masaai Mara offers a wildlife experience like no other. The highlight of safaris here is spotting the Big Five of Africa: leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos and buffalos. Other animals that call the park home include zebra, giraffe, and antelope. Masai Mara has a rich birdlife too, making it a hot favorite destination amongst birders and shutterbugs alike.
Kruger National Park, South Africa
Kruger National Park is arguably the best place on the earth to catch the sight of rich African wildlife. Apart from a large population of African elephants, lions, cape buffalos, and leopards, there are as many as 100 species of reptiles across the park’s diverse landscapes. It is located in the southern part of South Africa, and is easily accessible by both road and air from Johannesburg.
Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa
Addo Elephant National Park is another terrific wildlife destination in Africa. Located near Port Elizabeth in South Africa, the park covers a total area of 1640 sq km. Hordes of wildlife enthusiasts flock here for spotting wild animals, birds, reptiles and even marine creatures in their natural habitats. Other than elephants, buffalos and black rhinos, Addo Elephant National Park also boasts the world’s second largest breeding colony of African penguins.
Chobe National Park, Botswana
Home to a vast array of flora and fauna, Chobe National Park is a revered ecological site and also the first national park in Botswana. It has a large elephant population, perhaps the largest in Africa. To top it all, the Kalahari Elephants found in the park are the largest among all elephant species. Along with the gentle giants, visitors have the opportunity to spot African wildebeests, zebras, rhinos and giraffes. You may even see the rare red lechwe, sitatunga, and crocodiles at Chobe National Park.
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Serengeti, with a lush area of 14,750 square kilometers, thrives on its fascinating ecosystem that boasts a wide array of flora and fauna. The park, however, is best known for hosting the incredible annual migration of wildebeests and zebras. During the summer months, millions of these animals head to the Mara plains for greener pastures, braving some of the region’s greatest predators including the African Lions and giant Nile Crocodiles. Other residents of this wonderful ecosystem include cheetah, giraffe, rhino, and over a thousand bird species.
