People going on trips abroad, for example, holidays to Thailand, have been urged to look at all aspects of their break if they wish to save money.

This is according to Genevieve Shaw Brown, senior editor of Travelocity, who found that many people are simply concentrating on getting cheap airfares when they could also be investigating budget places to stay and trips.

She said that although prices for air travel may decrease slightly this year as jet fuel becomes less costly, adopting this approach may mean that people miss out on bargains.

“Travellers need to start concentrating on the total cost of their [holiday] to take advantage of the greatest savings,” she commented.

The company’s research also discovered that 65 per cent of respondents intend to go on the same amount of trips or even more than they did in 2008.

People looking for a place where they can stay in budget accommodation could consider holidays to Thailand, were some hostels can be booked for as little as £2.50 a night.
